Frannie Driscoll has been a practicing dental hygienist for 40 years. She joined CalHyPAC to become informed and to learn the goals of CalHyPAC through guidance from Aaron Reed and Associates.
“My involvement with CalHyPAC committee is to learn and support candidates who want to increase their awareness of dental hygienists education and how we can improve access to care. I love my profession because of the patients and helping them achieve good oral and overall health.”
Angela Gomez has been an RDH for the last 7 years and also practices as an RDHAP.
“When we talk about advocating for the advancement of our profession, we’re referring to the work that CalHyPAC does, together with Aaron Reed and Associates, to fund candidates that support and push new legislation that helps us grow and move forward. My favorite thing about being a hygienist is that it goes beyond the operatory. The relationships and services that we provide to our patients are rewarding, but I’ve also been able to gain leadership skills through various positions that I’ve held on both a local, and state level. (As well as random transferable skills, like editing this website!)”
Linda Brookman graduated from the USC Dental Hygiene program in 1979 and has been practicing for 42 years.
“Advocacy for the profession of dental hygiene is so important that I felt if I became involved with this committee I would become more aware of all the laws being passed or not that would affect our profession and the public. I want to ensure that the policymakers make informed decisions. I love dental hygiene because I feel we really get to know our patients more than any health care professionals. We see our patients 2, 3 and up to 4 times a year. We can really help them make behavioral changes to improve their oral and overall health. Plus, my DH colleagues are the kindest and most fun people I know!”
Ellen Standley has been a hygienist for over forty years.
“CalHyPAC is a unique opportunity to advance dental hygiene from the perspective of a PAC. It offers a behind-the-scenes look at the non partisan aspects of candidates for state office and an education on legal protocols that political action committees must abide by. I feel very lucky to be in a profession that is so much more than an eight to five job, a profession that encourages life-long professional growth, networking, advocacy, professional standards and service to the community.”
Susana Rico has been a hygienist for 9 years, and has 17 years of experience in the dental field. She was previously an RDA.
“I became involved with CalHyPAC because I want to make positive contributions to my profession. I also want to be informed about who and what is involved in shaping and changing dental hygiene in California. I love being an RDH because I genuinely like helping people. I like teaching my patients about oral health and how it is linked to their overall health. I also enjoy volunteering in my community as an RDH.”
